Our Seminar Speakers

Mark Hamby is founder and President of Lamplighter Ministries. He lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania with his wife, Debbie. They raised three children who were homeschooled and though they live in various parts of the US, Mark finds that he is more involved in his children’s lives than ever before. As an author, speaker, and Bible teacher, what Mark Hamby enjoys most is helping his audience to remove the mask in order to expose the heart. Unless the heart is reached, there can be no lasting change. Through the genre of storytelling and the lifechanging power of God’s Word, Mark’s audiences have learned that the God of all grace is willing and able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think. Mark will be doing a special Parent Teen Kickoff on Friday night that you won’t want to miss. On Saturday he will be sharing with adults in two sessions, one on parenting styles and the other on developing character through story telling.

Roy Hanson is Director and founder of Family Protection Ministries, a full-time organization monitoring all legislation and legal actions affecting California home educators since 1986. We are grateful to have Roy here to share with us the latest in legislative news and its affects on our future freedoms and private home schooling in California.

Jennifer Steward is widely known as a humorous and encouraging speaker drawing experience from her twenty three years of homeschooling. She is the author of “Everything You Need to Know About Homeschool Unit Studies” and will be sharing on this subject. She will also bring a message to moms titled “I’m the mom, not the maid” a subject she also wrote a book on called “The Choreganizer”.

Dave & Susan Johnson serve on the Board of Christian Family Schools. They have been married 17 years and have taught all of their three children at home from the beginning. They have a heart for raising up a Godly generation and helping families who are just beginning their homeschool journey. The Johnsons will be leading our Free Friday night “Introduction to Homeschooling” session.

Jennifer Pepito is a homeschooling mother of 6 children, missionary wife and editor of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s Chapel column. She is the leader of the CFS support group in Mexico and will be speaking to moms about teaching toddlers while homeschooling the rest.

Mary Tanskley has been homeschooling her eight children for over 27 years in Oceanside, has graduated six from homeschool, and is still homeschooling their younger children. In addition to spending 27 years in curriculum research, studying child development, and teaching Bible studies, Mary holds a BA in Language Arts and Bible from Biola University. She is the author and teacher of HomeSchooling for the Heart and Home Seminars. Mary’s session will be a “how to”, in teaching Composition.

Phil Bell brings almost a decade of helping families navigate the intricacies of college and financial advisory services. Phil is a Certified College Planning Specialist who owns his own firm and also teaches this subject at Palomar Community College. Phil will be teaching on the subject of college planning and funding. Phil is married with 2 great sons and lives in Valley Center on 4½ acres along with 1 dog, two feral cats and lots of wild animals.

Orlando Lafica is a graduate from Biola with a degree in Biblical Studies. He was an evangelist with Open Air Campaigners for 12 years, specializing in chalk talks. Using his battle worn sketch board, Orlando will take teens through a fascinating learning process of listening to the LORD.

Bruce Larson is an ex-Park Ranger Naturalist, and homeschool dad. Bruce started Sequoia Ministry in 1991 to stand in the gap between evolution and creation. Bruce will share a unique message for the entire family to enjoy. We will all learn together as Bruce uses his "Ranger" experience to teach from Job 12:7, "watch the animals and they will teach you, and the birds of the air, they will tell you"!

Scott Iverson and his beautiful wife Becky have been homeschooling their 4 children for 8 years and are involved in home school leadership in north county. His vocational expertise in training and motivation creates an enthusiasm and energy that permeates his sessions and the teens won’t be the same after an hour with him!

Dean & Audrey Nygaard and John & Laura Wojnicki are homeschool veterans. Their children have all graduated and are either attending college or are married with families of their own. They will be participating in a panel discussion concerning the practical reality of parent involvement in God’s choosing a spouse for their children.
