2013 Speakers

Michael Farris
Michael FarrisMichael Farris is the chancellor of Patrick Henry College and chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. He was the founding president of each organization.

Farris is a constitutional appellate litigator who has served as lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court, eight federal circuit courts, and the appellate courts of 13 states.

He has been a leader on Capitol Hill for over 30 years and is widely known for his leadership on homeschooling, religious freedom, and the preservation of American sovereignty. At Patrick Henry College, Farris teaches constitutional law, public international law, and coaches PHC’s Moot Court team which has won six national championships. A prolific author, Farris has been recognized with a number of awards including the Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship by the Heritage Foundation and as one of the “Top 100 Faces in Education for the 20th Century” by Education Week magazine. Mike and Vickie Farris have 10 children and 14 grandchildren.

Gregg Harris
Gregg HarrisGregg Harris is a Christian husband, father of seven children and grandfather of six. His work in the early 1980s helped to launch the Christian homeschooling movement. He is the author of The Christian Home School (1988 & 1995), founding President and Director of Noble Institute ,and a member of the Board of Directors for The Home School Foundation which helps families home school through hard times. Gregg's wife Sono Sato Harris, passed away in 2010. He and his three youngest children continue to live in Gresham, OR, where he serves as a pastor and teaching elder for Gresham Household of Faith. Gregg has over 36 years experience in Bible teaching ministry, and is best known for helping Christians of all ages understand how their home and family life can serve as an embassy to represent and advance God's kingdom until Christ returns. 

Gregg's first-born son, Joshua Harris is a pastor and the author of numerous books, including I Kissed Dating Goodbye. His second son, Joel Harris, is an accomplished musician, music instructor and worship leader who trains others to lead worship. His 23-year old twin sons, Alex & Brett Harris, are the co-founders of The Rebelution.com and best-selling coauthors of Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations and Start Here: Doing Hard Things Right Where You Are.

Featured Speakers

Steve and Annette Economides are internationally recognized personal finance experts, and authors of the New York Times Best-Seller, America's Cheapest Family Gets You Right On the Money. The Economides are frequent television talk show guests seen on The Today Show, Dr Phil, and Good Morning America.

Linda Hobar brings enthusiasm, warmth, and inspiration to the subject of world history. She feels the Lord gave her first the title and the vision of the series, The Mystery Of History, and then the drive and passion to write it.

Andrew Pudewa is the founder, principal speaker, and director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing.  Presenting throughout North America, he addresses issues relating to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity, insight, practical experience, and humor.

Additional Speakers

AIM (Action Impact Missions) believes Christian young people have the desire and the ability to create a paradigm shift for Christ in their world. AIM desires to give them the vision and training they need to complete this mission, and to challenge them to settle for nothing less than God’s absolute best in their own lives, in the Christian community, and in the world around them. Sessions will be led by Samuel Hughes.

Rich Bell is a Portfolio Manager and elder at his church and has served as a reserve officer for the Escondido Police force for over 13 years.  He and his wife Dawn homeschooled all three of their now grown children and served as CFS Support Group leaders in Escondido during this time.

Mbuyi Khuzadi is married to Mong-Tham and father to four children.  He and his wife have homeschooled their children for 13 years. Since 2007, Mbuyi and Mong-Tham have served as Executive Directors of Exploring Homeschooling, a Christian homeschooling outreach organization that seeks to train and equip Christian parents to disciple their children through private Biblical homeschooling. For the past six years, Mr. Khuzadi has led the Kids Entrepreneur Club, a group dedicated to training private Biblical homeschooled young people in the development of businesses of their own. Professionally, Mr. Khuzadi is an expert designer and implementer of cutting edge technology.  He is a published author, USPTO recognized inventor, and technical expert.

Janelle Knutson - As a homeschooling mother to five children ages 2 ½ to 15 years old, Janelle has had to find creative ways to homeschool her active crew. With nine years of homeschooling experience, she has a passion for encouraging and equipping other parents to homeschool their own children for the glory of God.  She and her husband serve as board members for CFS Rancho Bernardo.  When she isn’t busy with homeschooling, she enjoys reading a good book and catching up on sleep.

Nathan Pierce was homeschooled kindergarten through high school and received a B.A. in Political Studies from The Master's College. Nathan works full-time for Family Protection Ministries where he began as an intern in 2002.  He is a legislative liaison for private homeschooling and speaks at conferences to both homeschool parents and teens.  He and his wife Betsy were married in 2004 and have four children. 

Kristina Vergeer - Throughout the journey of home-educating, the Vergeer family has suffered great trial — the death of three children, two miscarriages, financial setbacks, the death of two close parents, as well as the common everyday struggles.  Kristina shares joy, peace, hope and insight on the LORD’S faithfulness when faced with challenges. Ed and Kristina live in Escondido and are in leadership in the CFS Valley Center  support group. They have six homeschooled children, their oldest a college senior.

John Wojnicki and his wife Laura co-chair Christian Family Schools. Their personal homeschool journey began in 1985. All four of their children are married and raising families of their own. Even though the Wojnicki's no longer have children living at home, they are thoroughly enjoying their nine grandchildren.  From their experience, they have found homeschooling to be the most conducive option for discipling children, and for this reason they remain involved as leaders of Christian Family Schools.

Free Friday Night Special Expo Offer

This year, we are once again providing a free introduction to homeschooling session at 5:00 PM on Friday.  Everyone is welcome and no advance reservation is required to attend this free session.  Additionally, we are offering Friday Night Free to families who have never homeschooled before, who have also not previously attended the CFS Expo, and who will be attending the Free Introduction to Homeschooling Session on Friday evening. This offer begins at 5:00 PM with the Introduction session and will also enable those who qualify to attend the Friday night keynote session for free, as well as entrance into the vendor hall Friday night.

Friday Night Free is only available to those who make reservations in advance by emailing Expo@cfssd.org.  Please use the following subject line in your email message: "Friday Night Free". You will receive a confirmation email back with further instructions on picking up your Friday Night Free pass at the Introduction Session. In addition, those with this pass will be eligible to upgrade their Friday Night Free pass for $25 to return and enjoy the rest of the convention on Saturday. This is a special offer to welcome those new to homeschooling. The deadline to register for this FREE offer is May 3rd.
